Deepstory Launches with an Intent-Driven, Calmer Short-Video Experience

Deepstory, a new India-born short-video platform, has launched with a focus on intentional discovery and a calmer viewing experience. The company says it aims to address the rapid mood shifts caused by traditional social feeds by offering a more structured way for users to explore content. Swiping left on Deepstory reveals more videos on the same topic, while swiping up introduces a new one — a design the company describes as “human-centred, not algorithm-driven”.

The platform’s development dates back to 2021, when the founding team began researching topic-led storytelling for short videos. Following an early proof of concept and a period of R&D, Deepstory launched its beta app in November 2024. Initial traction, however, slowed in mid-2025 after the first version of the left-swipe recommendation system struggled to consistently surface relevant follow-up clips. The team then rebuilt the engine using vector intelligence and external trend signals, significantly improving the accuracy of topic mapping.

Founder and CEO Raj Aryan Das says the platform is designed to solve the “emotional whiplash” of modern short-video consumption. “People jump from comedy to politics to heartbreak in seconds. Deepstory brings stability by letting users stay with one idea before moving on,” he said.

For creators, Deepstory positions itself as a fairer discovery platform. Each left swipe creates a new slot that any creator — regardless of follower base — can fill if their content fits the topic. The company is also developing a creator-first monetisation model, including low platform fees, direct brand partnerships and a new Motion Image format that adds cinematic movement to static visuals.

Deepstory is also building a pull-based advertising system. Topic-level viewing signals allow brands to place ads where user attention is already focused. The company says contextual ads typically generate higher engagement and reflect broader industry moves toward relevance-driven content.

Early data shows nearly one in five user actions are left swipes, suggesting strong appetite for deeper, topic-first exploration.
