The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is considered one of the toughest entrance exams in India, determining admission to the country’s 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). In 2017, Chandigarh’s Sarvesh Mehtani achieved an extraordinary feat by securing All India Rank (AIR) 1 in JEE Advanced with a score of 339. While his goal was to secure a spot in the top 10, he surpassed expectations to become the national topper.
Academic Excellence and Early Life
Born and raised in Chandigarh, Sarvesh comes from a family with a strong academic foundation. His father, Parvesh Mehtani, is an officer in the Income Tax Department, while his mother, Raj Bala, works in Haryana’s Industrial Training Department.
Sarvesh exhibited academic excellence from a young age, scoring a perfect 10 CGPA in Class 10 and securing 95.4% in Class 12. His dream of cracking the JEE took shape during his school years, and he remained dedicated to achieving this goal.
A Disciplined Approach to Success
According to his parents, Sarvesh never considered studying a burden. He followed a disciplined routine, revising his syllabus every night before sleeping—a habit that played a crucial role in his success.
In an interview, Sarvesh shared that he balanced his studies with relaxation by listening to music, watching cartoons, and playing badminton. His journey stands as an inspiration for aspiring engineers across India, proving that dedication, strategy, and balance can lead to remarkable achievements.
