Residents of 1,521 unauthorised colonies in Delhi can now apply online for the regularisation of their properties, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced. The process began on Friday through the MCD’s SWAGAM portal, offering a streamlined digital route for property owners to gain legal recognition under the Pradhan Mantri Uday (PM UDAY) scheme.

Property owners in the identified colonies can directly submit applications via the link mcdonline.nic.in/swagam. The entire procedure is designed to be fully online, with no physical verification required by the MCD. Data already available on the PM UDAY portal will be automatically fetched to simplify the process. To support applicants, the MCD has set up physical help desks in each of its 12 zonal offices.

More than 700 empanelled professionals are also available for consultation to assist with filing applications.Once an application is successfully submitted, applicants will receive an online regularisation certificate. They will also get SMS alerts and the ability to track their application status online. Officials have assured that regularisation documents will be issued within 45 days.Zonal building department officers will handle the applications on the SWAGAM portal.

After receiving the regularisation certificate, property owners can proceed to register their properties through the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) in coordination with the revenue department. The initiative aims to bring long-awaited legal clarity and security to thousands of homeowners who have lived for years in unauthorised settlements.

By digitising the process and integrating multiple government portals, the MCD hopes to make regularisation faster, more transparent, and accessible across the city. This move is expected to benefit a large number of residents in Delhi’s unauthorised colonies by enabling them to formally own and register their properties, potentially unlocking access to formal banking, loans, and other civic services.
