New Delhi: Indian e-commerce platform Meesho expects to create more than 10 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its seller and logistics network as businesses prepare for a surge in demand during the upcoming festive season.
The company said around 6.5 lakh jobs are likely to be generated across its seller ecosystem, while another 3.75 lakh roles are expected to come from logistics operations.
Meesho said nearly 1.3 lakh sellers are expected to hire temporary workers to prepare for higher festive demand. The jobs are likely to span packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing and inventory management.
Sellers are expected to increase inventory, introduce new products and expand their festive collections ahead of the shopping season, the company said.
The festive period is one of the busiest times of the year for India’s e-commerce industry, with major platforms typically seeing a sharp increase in orders as consumers shop for clothing, electronics, home products and other goods.
Meesho’s logistics operations are also expected to expand to handle the additional volumes. Its logistics platform, Valmo, along with third-party logistics partners, will increase capacity during the period.
Seasonal hiring in logistics is expected to cover delivery, package sorting, delivery-centre operations and supervisory roles.
The company said the festive season creates employment opportunities across different parts of its business ecosystem, while allowing sellers and logistics partners to scale up their operations.
The announcement comes as India’s major e-commerce companies prepare for their annual festive sales. The period is particularly important for online retailers, with a significant share of their annual sales typically generated during the festive shopping months.
The expected hiring also highlights the wider employment impact of India’s rapidly expanding digital commerce sector. Beyond direct employment, a rise in online orders supports work across warehousing, transportation, packaging and last-mile delivery.
With millions of consumers expected to shop online during the festive season, e-commerce companies are once again preparing their networks for one of the year’s biggest demand surges.
