Corporate India is increasingly aligning its business narrative with the government’s Viksit Bharat @2047 vision, signalling a sharper focus on technology, manufacturing, sustainability, human capital and institutional strength.
An analysis of 66 annual reports of 33 companies shows that Governance and Digital Transformation have emerged as the most prominent themes in corporate disclosures. The in-house Viksit Bharat Disclosure Index finds Aerospace & Defence, Automobiles and Banking leading the sectoral rankings.
The pathways, however, differ significantly across industries. IT companies are most strongly aligned with digital transformation, Energy with innovation, and Power with sustainability. Banking stands out for its combination of governance, digital transformation and human-capital priorities.
The analysis of the government’s Sapta Dhara framework points to strong corporate alignment with Technology & Innovation, Manufacturing, Connectivity & Infrastructure, and the Green & Blue Economy. Defence, agriculture and food production, and soft power remain more sector-specific areas of engagement.
Importantly, corporate disclosures are becoming increasingly forward-looking, highlighting investments, capacity expansion, technology upgrades and strategic transformation. Banking, Automobiles and Aerospace & Defence show the strongest future-oriented language, followed by Metals and Food Processing.
Defence is emerging as a particularly important growth engine. India’s shift towards indigenous design, manufacturing and exports has helped defence production reach a record ₹1.78 lakh crore, while exports stood at ₹38,424 crore in FY26.
The investment momentum is visible across strategic sectors, with power project additions rising to 2,074 in FY26. Defence projects increased from 4 in FY20 to 45, while automobile projects rose from 17 to 69.
The next challenge is execution. Companies will need to translate broad Viksit Bharat references into capex, technology adoption, resilient supply chains, workforce skilling and measurable sustainability targets. Stronger alignment in areas such as power and electrical equipment—through grid modernisation, storage, renewables, indigenous manufacturing and R&D—could further accelerate India’s development journey.
