Vimag Labs has started operations at its first manufacturing facility in Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana, as the company plans to invest around Rs 50 crore in expanding its manufacturing capabilities in India.

The facility manufactures and assembles motor and control systems, including the company’s proprietary magnet-free motor technology. Vimag said it had already completed and exported its first production batch from the site.

The planned investment will be deployed in phases, depending on customer demand, production volumes and programme requirements. The company is also evaluating additional manufacturing locations and partnerships to support domestic and international customers.

The Jhajjar facility currently spans 10,000 sq ft, with the potential to expand to approximately 20,000 sq ft. Its initial focus is on industrialising and producing mid-power motor and control systems for electric mobility and other electrified applications.

The manufacturing setup includes automated production lines, clean-room areas and digitally connected systems designed to improve monitoring, traceability and quality control.

Vimag aims to scale its manufacturing network to a capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as customer volumes increase. It also plans to manufacture high-power systems rated at 570 kW and above as customer programmes mature.

“The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialisation and serial production,” said Manish Seth, co-founder and chief executive of Vimag Labs.

The company expects its manufacturing expansion to create around 100-150 direct and indirect jobs across engineering, testing, quality, supply chain and operations.

Vimag recently raised $5m in a Series A funding round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. It has also signed a manufacturing memorandum of understanding with Jendamark Pvt Ltd to support production scale-up.

Separately, the company has secured an exclusive US technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.

The expansion forms part of Vimag’s strategy to build an India-based manufacturing network serving customers in domestic and global markets.
