Travel accessories startup Escape Plan has raised $5 million in seed funding from Jungle Ventures and Fireside Ventures, betting big on India’s evolving travel culture and the growing demand for design-forward luggage among urban millennials.
The Bengaluru-based company, founded by serial entrepreneur Abhinav Pathak and retail veteran Abhinav Zutshi, is positioning itself as India’s first design-led travel accessories platform in a market currently dominated by utilitarian products.
Founders Bring Tech-Retail Pedigree
Pathak brings significant startup credibility, having previously founded Perpule, which Amazon acquired in 2021. His co-founder Zutshi brings deep retail expertise from stints at Big Bazaar, Forever 21, and Landmark Group—a combination investors say creates a rare blend of tech DNA and retail execution capability.
“Indian consumers today are exposed to global tastes but left with few local choices that reflect that sensibility,” said Rishab Malik, Partner at Jungle Ventures, highlighting the market gap the startup aims to fill.
Aggressive Expansion Plans
The funding will fuel an ambitious retail rollout, with Escape Plan targeting over 100 offline stores across India within 18-24 months. The company is also integrating with quick-commerce platforms to offer one-hour delivery in key markets, tapping into last-minute travel needs and gifting opportunities.
India’s travel and luggage market, valued at $3.5 billion, is projected to exceed $5 billion by 2028, driven by younger Indians who view travel as lifestyle rather than luxury.
“Travel is no longer occasional—it is an integral part of lifestyle across age groups and segments. Yet, the travel gear industry has not kept pace with this shift,” Pathak explained.
Omni-Channel Strategy
Escape Plan’s business model spans physical retail, hyperlocal delivery, and curated multi-brand ecosystem featuring luggage, backpacks, and modular accessories. The startup is betting that design-conscious consumers will pay premium prices for products that blend style with functionality.
“Escape Plan is reimagining travel gear for a new generation of consumers who value design, identity, and instant access,” said Vinay Singh, Partner at Fireside Ventures.
The startup faces competition from established players like VIP Industries and American Tourister, but founders believe their design-first approach and omni-channel distribution will create differentiation in a traditionally staid category.
